"Prepare
and Enrich"
A nationally known program for couples at the New Learning Center
Selbe Potter Ruggiero
of the New Learning Center is offering the "Prepare and Enrich" program
which was recently featured on "Good Morning America." This program,
developed by David H. Olson, Ph.D,. uses a questionnaire to help counselors
and couples use objective information to identify both strengths and
areas for growth in relationships. "Prepare and Enrich" is ideal for
couples preparing for marriage as well as for those experiencing marital
challenges. The goal of "Prepare and Enrich" is to find an effective
and individualized way to help each couple learn skills to handle this
most complicated of human relationships. The program explores the couple's
relationship strengths and weaknesses and looks at the background of
the couple's "partnering style". Couples learn useful communication
skills such as assertiveness and active listening as well as a ten step
conflict resolution procedure. Each couple develops personal, couple
and family goals, which are vital to maintaining their direction and
progress. Pragmatic issues such as budgeting and financial planning
are also covered. Mrs. Potter Ruggiero is an experienced, licensed clinical
social worker specially trained in the "Prepare and Enrich" program.
For over 10 years, she was a social worker in the CT Health Care Plan,
serving over 40,000 members, working with individuals, couples and families.
In addition to her clinical work there, she was responsible for training
other health care professionals, and she has been a consultant to the
Yale University Health Service. At the New Learning Center, she is the
Associate Director of Clinical Services. For information, call 226-0100,
