1.
Do I have to initiate the session?
Ideally it would be good for you to start the session with the issues
that bring you to us. However, we are prepared to help you start the
process by asking pertinent questions that can prompt open responses.
2.
What if I’m unsure about this form of therapy as opposed to traditional
sessions?
See our page describing whether this service
is right for you. If you have had traditional therapy in the past,
you should know within 1 or 2 sessions how this compares to traditional
forms of therapy. Whether or not you have been in any other type of
therapy, our initial goals will be to clarify your goals for treatment
and explore with you how you are experiencing the process. One of
the advantages of online therapy is that you have more options to
think through your responses; written language is often more quickly
descriptive of deeply-held feelings and thoughts than verbal responses.
3.
What about the time it takes to write back and forth; is there enough
time in an hour
to
adequately explore issues?
In our experience,
the time is used more efficiently because writing unleashes lots of
thoughts in cohesive form and responses back and forth are sent immediately
through our secured online consult room. Also, the time spent in writing
is to some degree compensated for by lower fees than those we would
charge in our offices.
4.
How can I contact my therapist in an emergency?
You may phone our office and receive our
24-hour emergency number. You would have to call the service and leave
a phone number where you can be reached. Either your therapist will
respond, or if he/she is not available, someone on call will get to
you as soon as possible.
5.
How do I know that all communications with my therapist will be held
in strict confidence?
Your session is in a secure server and all written communication is
automatically deleted after the session has ended. Your therapist
will make appropriate notes for his/her own records, which are also
in a secure file, as required by the professional standards of practice.
6.
What if I only want to talk with a male/female therapist?
You will have the opportunity to request either gender, since we are
fortunate to have on staff trained male and female clinicians.
7.
Will I have to pay if I miss a scheduled appointment?
Your therapist has set aside the time for the session in the same
manner as if you were in the office. All sessions will be charged
unless there is a 24 hour notice to our general email
address informing our secretary of your cancellation.
8.
Can I try out this service on a session by session basis, or must
I commit to a certain number of sessions?
Since you are only charged for the sessions you book, you are free
to terminate at any time you wish. Of course, commitment to the process
is most likely to produce successful results, and we hope that you
would consult with your therapist for his/her comments or advice if
you are thinking of terminating your service.
9.
How do I know my credit card number will be safe?
You will
be calling our office to give us your credit card number. You will
see from our website that we have a legitimate address with credentialed
therapists working for us, all licensed by the State of Connecticut
as clinicians. You will only be receiving service from clinicians
in good standing in the profession, sworn to uphold professional standards
of practice.
10.
How can I verify the credentials of my therapist?
You may request the license number of your therapist for verification,
if you wish. In addition, see the answer above.
11.
Will I be able to choose my therapist?
Within the limits of the expertise for online therapy, you may select
from the staff members listed in our website. Naturally, not all of
our staff are qualified for online therapy; only those who have had
training for this arena will be offered. But we do have a variety
of clinicians, both male and female, with credentials as psychologist,
social worker or marriage and family therapist, from whom to select.
12.
What can I do if I don't like my therapist?
As a Center, we are always interested in knowing the reactions of
our clients, both positive and negative, to any therapist with whom
they have worked. If you feel you have not established good rapport
with a therapist, we would ask you to email
your reactions and we will do all we can to make a good fit for
you. In practice, our intake process for all our clients (whether
seen in the office or online) entails making every attempt to make
a fit between therapist and clients, based on the client needs and
issues.
13.
Will I always get the same therapist?
Absolutely. Good therapeutic practice requires one consistent
person with whom you want to develop a trust relationship, just as
you would expect if you were coming into the office.
